AKRONVictim identifiedAKRON: Authorities have identified an Akron man who was shot Sunday while sitting in a vehicle in Northwest Akron.An autopsy determined that Lamar B. Johnson, 29, of Peerless Avenue, died as a result of gunshot wounds to the torso, the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday.Johnson’s death has been ruled a homicide, said Gary Guenther, an investigator with the medical examiner’s office.Authorities were notified of the shooting at 4 a.m. Sunday.Johnson was taken to Akron General Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 4:24 p.m.Woman shotAKRON: Police are investigating the shooting Friday afternoon of an Akron woman.Authorities say around 4:30 p.m. Friday, a 23-year-old Paris Avenue woman reported that she was leaving a friend’s house near Burton Street and Grand Avenue when she heard shots.The woman suffered a gunshot wound to her leg and was taken to St. Thomas Hospital by her boyfriend.Fight with policeAKRON: An Akron man faces a string of charges after he was accused of fighting with police officers Friday night.Officers were called around 8 p.m. to reports of a fight in the 800 block of Amherst Street.Officers said they found a man tearing off siding from a house and pulling plants out of the ground.The man then fought with officers, who had to use a Taser to subdue him. James A. Gilbert, 49, who is homeless, has been charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct by fighting.Store robbedAKRON: Police say the Dollar General Store, 2084 Mogadore Road, was robbed around 1 p.m. Saturday. The robber entered the store and walked around selecting merchandise.Authorities say that once he got to the front registers, he told the clerk that he forgot the milk, then he walked up behind the counter and placed a sharp object in the clerk’s back.He told the worker he had a gun and demanded money. The man reached into the register and grabbed cash and ran.Stand burglarizedAKRON: The West Griffins Peewee Football concession stand was broken into over the weekend.Police say someone used a crowbar to open a window of the stand at 1537 Peckham St.The group reported that about $35 is missing.Suspect nabbedAKRON: A suspect has been arrested in the robbery last week of a delivery driver for Gionino’s Pizza on South Main Street.Travuan M. Tucker, 18, of 10th Street SW, Akron, has been charged with aggravated robbery.Tucker was taken into custody around 9 a.m. Monday by Akron officers and members of the U.S. Marshals Office Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force at an apartment on East Emerling Street.Shots firedAKRON: An Akron man called police around 9 a.m. Sunday to report that someone shot at him.The man said that while he was unloading groceries from his car, which was parked in his driveway in the 1100 block of Laurel Avenue, someone fired several shots.The man said he heard several males in the bushes near his house.Museum damaged AKRON: A window above the lobby staircase in the $35 million Akron Art Museum was cracked by a window-washing crew and must be replaced, according to museum Director Mitchell Kahan. Kahan said in an email that “a window-washing crew broke it with a piece of their equipment, which I doubt is of interest to the public. The organization describes her as a “Real Daughter” (a woman who is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and whose father served in the Revolutionary War).Elizabeth Sypher Lantz was born in 1820 in Union County, Pa., and died in 1899 in Chicago. She is buried in the East Akron Cemetery. Group rates are available.Proceeds will benefit the two organizations.Concessions will be available.For information, visit www.heritagefarms.com.SUMMIT COUNTYWoman hurt in fightCOVENTRY TWP.: Two Akron men were arrested early Sunday after Summit County sheriff’s deputies said a woman was injured, apparently after being hit with a baseball bat during a fight at a Coventry Township tavern.Rashaad Solomon, 22, was arrested on charges of felonious assault and assault. Matthew Doss, 28, was arrested on an assault charge after the fight at the Basement at the Lakes, 3420 Manchester Road.Deputies responding to a call of a large fight at the bar found the female victim, who was treated and taken to Summa Akron City Hospital.Three other individuals suffered minor injuries during the fight but were not taken to the hospital, deputies said.People were fleeing the area but a large group was still on the premises when deputies arrived at the bar about 2 a.m. Sunday, said Bill Holland, inspector for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.Witnesses gave deputies a description of the assault suspects and the vehicle they were driving. The suspects were located in the vehicle a short distance from the bar.
